7 Reasons Why Goals Fail

A man was travelling and stopped at an intersection. He asked an elderly man who was walking by, “Where does this road take me?” The elderly person asked, “Where do you want to go?” The man replied, “I don’t know.” The elderly person said, “Then take any road. What difference does it make?”

Without a path to travel on you can feel lost and alone. As we grow up we are taught to thrive on structure and order. We a brought up in schools which map out our education. We have set times for work, play and food. All of those structures have a purpose and it's the same in everything we do.

Without purpose, which direction will you take? How will you find your destination if you don't know where you're going? How can you be successful if you can't define your success?

Why Goals Fail

1- A pessimistic attitude.

There are just some people out there that will always try and see the pitfalls rather than the possibilities. They are quite happy, where they are complaining about most things that come their way. Pessimism is founded by logic and critical thinking. When you have that attitude toward life and other things you find yourself finding reasons why things will fail. But it's also a choice. There is nothing wrong with finding problems... if you are capable of finding the solutions.

2- Fear of failure.

What if I don’t make it? People feel subconsciously that if they don’t set goals and if they don’t make it, then they haven’t failed. But they are failures to begin with if they don't start. I'm a terrible singer, but if i'm the only one singing then there's no competition.

3- A lack of ambition

This is a result of our value system and lack of desire to live a fulfilled life. Our limited thinking prevents us from progress. There was a fisherman who, every time he caught a big fish, would throw it back into the river, keeping only the smaller ones. A man watching this unusual behavior asked the fisherman why he was doing this. The fisherman replied, “Because I have a small frying pan.” Most people never make it in life because they are carrying a small frying pan. That is limited thinking.

4- A fear of rejection

If I don’t make it, what will other people say? What will everybody think of me if I get rejected. That fear is crippling. But it's only because the reason you set those goals is not great enough. When you become afraid of other peoples thoughts and opinions then you haven't defined the purpose of your goals. There is a reason why you set your goals and dreams so high. Some people are just so negative in life they will need to say NO a thousand times before they can say YES.

5- Procrastination

“Someday, I will set my goals.” This ties in with a lack of ambition. But gets taken over by quick fixes, such as eating, social networking and games. When you are not prepared to see your goals all the way through, you find yourself getting small satisfaction from the little things around you.

6- Low self-esteem

Because a person is not internally driven and has no inspiration. This happens when you haven't seen the results you want right away. When you give up half way through, and start to doubt your abilities. This leads to second guessing your initial gut feeling and question yourself as a person.

7- Ignorance of the important of goals

Nobody taught them and they never learned the importance of goal setting. People don’t know the mechanics of setting goals. They need a step by- step guide so that they can follow a system.
